About our CSR Programme

Rent 2 Own Myanmar has mission to reforest by planting more than 12,000 plants in 2018 in collaboration with the Association of Carbon Capture (ACC), Myanmar Forest Department and Kalaw Green Hands Network. In 2019 Monsoon season, 35,000 additional trees were planted in four areas in Myanmar such as:

5,000 plants in Myinka Village, Kalaw 10,000 plants around Naung Taung Chariy School, Hopone 10,000 plants around Shwe Nadi Charity School, Kyaukpaddaung 10,000 plants around Pan Pyo Latt Charity School, Bago Region

With the support from the respective monks from project areas, Rent 2 Own signed the no tree cutting for 25 years contract, witnessed by Myanmar Forest Department.

For the first four years, the Association of Carbon Capture (ACC) will conserve the trees which were planted in 2018 and 2019. Security staff is already recruited to take care in the wood. The respective monasteries and village tracts will maintain this conservation in the remaining 21 years. Rent 2 Own Myanmar and Association of Carbon Capture (ACC) will work together on carbon reducing, greenhouse and other CSR projects across Myanmar.

Our Impact

OUR IMPACT

The products Rent 2 Own provides – rental agreements and cash loans - have a big impact on the people who need it most: low income workers, students and small business owners. We help people get access to mobility products, like motorcycles. This means workers can get to their job, even if that job is 15 miles down the road. Using their motorcycle, market sellers can transport their goods to market, or deliver them at the doorstep of their clients. We are proud that we can support our customers in their quest to improve their lives.

Taking our responsibilities

A company is not an island. We are part of the society we operate in, and want to contribute to the transition of Myanmar into a well-developed nation. Rent 2 Own takes its responsibilities seriously. We have taken concrete steps to be a responsible employer and to compensate carbon emissions of the motorcycles we finance. We care for people and the environment.

Protecting clients

Providing the means to customers so they can improve their lives, is a positive and empowering thing. But we also want to make sure that we prevent over-indebtedness, that we keep client data confidential, that our pricing is responsible and that customer complaints are dealt with in a swift and proper way. Rent 2 Own is Alinus Cerise certified. Our Alinus score in client protection is 68%. We score particularly well on prevention of over-indebtedness (80%) and responsible pricing (90%).

Contributing to Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), that have been formulated by the United Nations, are a blueprint for a developed and more sustainable future for all. In our mission statement we indicate that we want to promote rural employability and improvement of living standards through the provision of services to the low-income population of Myanmar. Through the services we provide we contribute to 5 out of the 17 SDGs: No Poverty (Goal 1), Good Health and Well-Being (Goal 3), Quality Education (Goal 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (Goal 8), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (Goal 9).

Compensating carbon emissions

Climate change also poses a real threat to Myanmar, where droughts, cyclones and floods regularly wreak havoc. The exhaust gases of the motorcycles we help finance contain CO2. Rent 2 Own takes its responsibility by supporting carbon capture initiatives. In 2018 we initiated a tree planting project that in 2019 has been adopted by the Association for Carbon Capture, a local non-profit organization.
The results have been heartening. In 2018 and 2019 over 50,000 trees have been planted under “25 years no tree cutting” agreements, at four locations provided by the Municipality of Kalaw (Southern Shan State), the village of Myinka, the Naung Taung Monastery in Hopong (Southern Shan State), the Shwe Nadi Monastery in Kyaukpadaung (Mandalay Region) and the Pann Phyu Latt Monastery in Bago. The agreements are meant to prevent logging and guarantee the sustainability of the project.
Rent 2 Own intends to keep supporting the ACC’s reforestation projects and public awareness campaigns in the future.
