Climate change also poses a real threat to Myanmar, where droughts, cyclones and floods regularly wreak havoc. The exhaust gases of the motorcycles we help finance contain CO2. Rent 2 Own takes its responsibility by supporting carbon capture initiatives. In 2018 we initiated a tree planting project that in 2019 has been adopted by the Association for Carbon Capture, a local non-profit organization.
The results have been heartening. In 2018 and 2019 over 50,000 trees have been planted under “25 years no tree cutting” agreements, at four locations provided by the Municipality of Kalaw (Southern Shan State), the village of Myinka, the Naung Taung Monastery in Hopong (Southern Shan State), the Shwe Nadi Monastery in Kyaukpadaung (Mandalay Region) and the Pann Phyu Latt Monastery in Bago. The agreements are meant to prevent logging and guarantee the sustainability of the project.
Rent 2 Own intends to keep supporting the ACC’s reforestation projects and public awareness campaigns in the future.
